Serres

The second circuit to open in Greece, mere months after the facility at Megara, Serres Circuit (Greek: Αυτοκινητοδρόμιο Σερρών) is the larger and more accomplished of the two and the only FIA and FIM-accredited facility in the whole country.

The circuit opened on a 1,000 acre site in 1998, built in accordance with safety requirements up to Formula 3 levels.  At 1.980 miles / 3.186 km it is the longest circuit in the Balkan region and receives plenty of use throughout the year.

Facilities at the track are good, with a pit building boasting 18 garages, a media centre, vip rooms, restaurants and viewing areas on the second floor.

The track was resurfaced in 2012 and again in 2021, at which point numerous other general upgrades were carried out, including a refurbishments of the VIP boxes underneath the grandstand.  Trackside walls and kerbing were also repainted during the year, changing from blue and white to red and white in the process.

Behind the scenes changes in early 2022 saw the Mayor of Serres, Alexandros Chrysafis, taking over as chairman of the Board of Directors of the circuit.  Tthe Municipality of Serres owns 76.5% of the shares of the circuit operating company.
